Green Hydrogen for a Successful Energy Transition

Weidmüller has joined the European Clean Hydrogen Alliance

Detmold, 17 May 2021: As a new member of the "European Clean Hydrogen Alliance", Weidmüller is actively promoting the successful implementation of the European hydrogen strategy. With the support of its many renowned members, the Alliance is pursuing the goal of further expanding the hydrogen value chain throughout Europe by 2030. The electrolysis of water using wind or solar power to produce "green hydrogen" for use in industry, energy and transport is a decisive means for achieving required CO2 reductions. As part of the alliance, Weidmüller is making an important contribution towards achieving the European Union's climate targets – towards a future worth living.

Dr Timo Berger, Weidmüller's Chief Marketing and Sales Officer, has clear goals for the promotion of hydrogen: "Together with the associated industry networks, we must develop sustainable and economically attractive solutions in the field of hydrogen ecosystems. Hydrogen is one of the key elements in countering climate change. Electrical engineering, automation and digitalisation play a very important role in unlocking this potential."

The "European Clean Hydrogen Alliance" sees itself as responsible for increasing both the production and the demand for renewable and low-carbon hydrogen and thus reducing CO2 emissions across the board. The initiative is therefore an ideal fit with the Detmold family-owned company's commitment to sustainability. "This is both an opportunity and a responsibility: we have many years of experience in photovoltaics and wind energy, extensive knowledge in energy and process technology and in condition monitoring. It is therefore obvious that we contribute our experience to this newly emerging, climate-neutral energy landscape", affirms Berger.

Weidmüller already strengthened its commitment to sustainability as a founding member of "AquaVentus" at the beginning of the year. The sponsoring association, consisting of research institutions, organizations and companies, aims to decisively shape and advance the technology for the production of climate-neutral hydrogen from offshore wind energy.
