Visitors were given the opportunity to take a tour

“We’re pleased to present our Education Village, consisting of the Weidmüller Academy, the Peter Gläsel School and the Pöppenteich daycare center with all their various facets”, said Sybille Hilker, company spokesperson for the Weidmüller Group. The building of the new Weidmüller Academy offers around 2,000 square metres of space for trainees, co-op students and other employees - workshops, a machine park, rooms for “new work”, training programmes and innovations form the core of the new building. “On this day, all visitors will have the opportunity to tour the premises of the three facilities. We want to show that we think and live education holistically here, from kindergarten to vocational training”, Hilker emphasised. The company spokeswoman added: “I would be very happy if everyone, above all young people, came to see the opportunities and the high level of vocational training available here for themselves. Co-operative vocational training is still the key success factor of Germany’s small and medium-sized enterprises.”

District Administrator Dr Axel Lehmann also accepted the invitation to the open day: “I really like the networking idea that is practiced and realised here.”

Daniel Müller (16) from Augustdorf also came with his mother Barbara to find out about Weidmüller’s training opportunities. “My mother told me about the open day because I’m looking for a training position”, said the teenager. His mother Barbara added: “I’m glad he took my advice and I’m delighted about the great offers here.”

Peter Gläsel School provided insights into learning environment

The Peter Gläsel School, an innovative primary school, provided insights into its learning environment. There are no corridors and classrooms here. Instead, the school features bright learning spaces that use natural materials to support the joy of learning. The pedagogical conceptwith the aim of involving children from the very beginning was also reflected at the open day: the pupils were actively involved, guiding visitors through the school and taking part in joint activities with the trainees from the Weidmüller Academy.

Visitors had the opportunity to discover a new learning culture

“The Open Day of the Education Village gives visitors an insight into the future of education”, Stefan Wolf, Managing Director of the Peter Gläsel Foundation, was pleased to say. “We’re creating a new learning culture in which young people, children and adults benefit from each other”, Wolf added. Interested visitors were warmly encouraged to experience this atmosphere on this day.

Georg and Sabine Schlickenrieder and their son Tobias (5) were also delighted about the Detmold Education Village. “We think it’s great that the Detmold Education Village is allowing us a look behind the scenes”, said Georg. The family is currently looking for a primary school for Tobias. “That’s why we were very happy to accept the offer”, Sabine added.
