Klippon Connect TTB Range for Instrument Transformer Wiring - Simple, fast and safe wiring of current and voltage transformers

05/10/2021

Weidmuller’s TTB measuring transformer terminal block series is a unique systematic offering of modular terminals that meet all the connection requirements of critical transformer (current/voltage) protection and measurement functions.

Richmond, Virginia – Weidmuller’s TTB measuring transformer terminal block series is a unique systematic offering of modular terminals that meet all the connection requirements of critical transformer (current/voltage) protection and measurement functions. The series is approved according to IEC 60947-7-1 Annex D – safety-relevant components captively connected to the modular terminal block. In addition, North American approvals; such as, UL/CSA (cURus) are available as well.

The measuring transformer terminals of the TTB series have been specially developed for use in secondary circuits of measuring transformers. For safe application when disconnecting or isolating protection of measuring devices, the terminal short-circuits the current transformer and thus prevents high voltages from occurring in the secondary winding. One of the most important advantages of the new transformer terminal is the "close-before-open" contact for up to four connections. It ensures that the current transformer within the terminal is short-circuited before it is disconnected from the rest of the transformer circuit. This prevents the voltage at the current transformer from running up and protects it from damage or even destruction. After short-circuiting the current transformer (CT) side and simultaneously disconnecting the primary side, the meter can be easily and safely checked via relay test or replaced. The combination of a disconnecting lever and short-circuit bridge in a single system provides the possibility of forced short-circuit functionality to guarantee simple and safe wiring.

Thanks to the patent-pending Comparative Measurement (CM) lever connection, two terminal blocks can be selectively disconnected in order to interconnect a calibrated measuring device. After the measurement, the captive lever is reset to the original position, leaving the "close-before-open" contact active which is a unique feature of the TTB series that guarantees the highest safety for personnel and equipment. The switching state of the TTB series instrument transformer terminals is easily visible in all lighting conditions based on color coding. The disconnect lever can be operated by hand or with a standard screwdriver. It also facilitates the realization of multi-pole actuations.

The measuring transformer terminal blocks of the TTB series also adapt flexibly to different customer specifications. The integrated combination foot allows mounting on the two common mounting DIN rail profiles TS32 and TS 35. In addition, the terminal blocks are available with either PUSH IN or screw connection technology. A transparent protective cover system is available for particularly sensitive applications. Its cover can only be fixed when all connection components are in their initial position. In this way, the assembly is comprehensively protected against incorrect operation, unauthorized access and contamination without impairing visual inspection.

The TTB series carries an electrical rating of 300-600V/5-30A/AWG 22 -8.

Weidmuller’s steadfast commitment to setting the world standard in wire termination technology makes Weidmuller the acknowledged world leader. By using the best materials and the best technology, Weidmuller provides the safest and most innovative connection solutions available in a wide area of industrial applications.

Richmond, Virginia- In expanding our commitment to providing standard duty connections, Weidmuller is proud to announce the addition of a new color-coded Power Distribution Block series to our already impressive selection of IP 20 feed-through terminals. These DIN rail/direct mountable blocks are intended for distributing main power sources for low voltage (600V AC/DC, 30-310A) applications, utilizing large wire sizes, and of course, maintaining finger-safe connections. Further, these distribution blocks allow for multi-pole assembly with built-in joiners to gang blocks together to generate two and three-phase groupings.

Weidmuller W-Series Power Distribution (WPD’s) blocks are not your typical distribution blocks: they are clearly designed with the future in mind. They minimize installation costs by unifying power connections in the control cabinet to a single bus module instead of the always bulky and sometimes non-finger safe traditional barrier style blocks. Manage multiple load connections from one to nine poles with a single WPD. Line and Load connections are designed to grip a wide range of wire sizes (AWG 14 - 3/0) making inventory selection for numerous requirements a snap. With application flexibility, reduced installed cost, and safety included, the Weidmuller Power Distribution Blocks deliver power and performance.

OMNIMATE POWER BUS WINS CONTROL ENGINEERING’S 2021 ENGINEER’S CHOICE HONORABLE MENTION

02/12/2021

Weidmüller is excited to announce that our Omnimate Power BUS has been named the Honorable Mention in the Power – Energy, Power Protection category in Control Engineering’s 2020 Engineers’ Choice Awards.

Richmond, Virginia - With multi-axis amplifiers used for controlling large numbers of drives, the correct solution is to have busbar systems for the DC link and the 24 V control voltage. Weidmüller has developed a modular busbar solution for this purpose. The system consists of connection blocks (BUS-connector - PB-Con) with spring contacts to accommodate the busbars, as well as a screw contact to the respective printed circuit board of a device. The connection block is used for both the mechanical and the electrical connection of the busbar. The busbars are available in two versions. To supply power to the axis system, the spring contact runs the full length of the connection block. This enables a power supply of up to 160 A to be fed to the busbar system. The drive modules are connected together using busbar connectors in 50 mm, 100 mm or modular lengths, depending on the width of the device. Insulation end caps provide finger-safe closure.

Another benefit of the system is that it is suitable for both top and front mounting onto devices. The spring contact system has tolerance compensation for module offsets of up to +-2 mm, which gives the device designer a degree of freedom to attach the DC link connections to the device either on the front or from above. This means that the system can be perfectly adapted to the installation conditions of the respective group of devices.

The Weidmüller solution benefits everyone involved. The user can install the busbars quickly, easily and without any tools. The busbar connectors snap into place, which increases the mechanical stability. The tolerance compensation enables the axis group to be easily fastened to the control cabinet mounting plate. The design is finger-safe and allows for the quick replacement of individual drive modules in a group of axes.

And it is just as advantageous for device developers: The Weidmüller system is designed entirely for the sizes and technical data of typical multi-axis servo amplifiers. Different module widths are possible for power supplies and drive modules. The use of registered UL components means that UL approval is straightforward. At the same time, there is no need for any development effort or investment regarding a proprietary solution, which in turn reduces project lead times.

In industrial IoT, all the components of a production environment are interconnected via a digital infrastructure and must therefore be capable of communicating with each other – the power supplies included. This why Weidmüller's PROtop devices also feature the topGUARD load monitoring system and a plug-in communication interface.

Richmond, Virginia - In industrial IoT, all the components of a production environment are interconnected via a digital infrastructure and must therefore be capable of communicating with each other – the power supplies included. This why Weidmüller's PROtop devices also feature the topGUARD load monitoring system and a plug-in communication interface. topGUARD is a modular electronic load output system comprising a feed-in module and several connected output modules. The output modules are available with both fixed and freely adjustable fuse ratings up to 12 A per module. Voltage-adaptive Class 2 load monitoring enables operating voltages of 18 V – 30 V DC to be consistently applied for the first time for NEC-compliant distribution. In the event of an overload or a short circuit, topGUARD will shut down the affected channel.

However, the highlight of the system is the communication module, which can be used to retrofit both the PROtop power supply as well as the topGUARD load monitoring system. The standardized IO-Link technology (IEC 61131-9) allows users to transmit data while also ensuring data transparency and providing remote-controlled operation of the topGUARD load monitoring. The communication module, for example, allows each module to be monitored for voltage and current output, as well as switching the individual channels on and off and resetting them in the event of a fault. The modules can also be parameterized directly via the controller. Operating data is recorded in an IODD file.

The communication module was designed as a retrofit solution and is simply plugged in. Changes to the actual power supply are unnecessary. Users can therefore start off with a classic system and expand it as and when required. Currently supported communication protocols are I/O-Link and CANopen with others in the planning. This means that operators can change their bus system whenever they wish with minimum effort, but more importantly it allows them to create a truly end-to-end communication structure.

Communication-enabled load monitoring offers remote control options, provides operating data for optimal status monitoring and enables the 24/48 V system to be reliably monitored and protected. This intelligent networking between machine, control cabinet and IT system opens up completely new control, monitoring and analysis solutions. With its communication-enabled load monitoring system topGUARD, Weidmüller is giving machine and system operators the ability to develop new services for diagnosing and optimizing their processes for the first time. Simply put, the system generates added value from machine data.

topGUARD makes selective circuit protection fit for digitization as the modules enable process data to be transferred to to a higher-level control system. This ensures networking with other system components. The power supply or load monitoring system can be controlled remotely and integrated into the condition monitoring system, thereby reducing power consumption and the planning of maintenance work. This significantly increases the functional reliability and profitability of a wide range of systems – such as food and packaging systems in 24/7 operation as well as hard-to-reach offshore wind farms.

For the first time, the electrical engineering enterprise presents a demonstrator for an intelligent plug-in connector at the Hannover Messe Preview, which enables the transmission, measurement and analysis of energy.

Hannover / Detmold, 24 January 2019. Although there are still ten weeks to go before the world's biggest industrial trade fair Hannover Messe opens its doors, visitors were already able to receive a foretaste of the most important trends and tendencies from the 72nd edition of the fair at the official Preview. Under the motto "Integrated Industry – Industrial Intelligence", in Hanover the electrical engineering specialist Weidmüller from Detmold presents a demonstrator for an intelligent plug-in connector, which enables the transmission, measurement and analysis of energy. "Plug-in connectors are the interface between machines, controller and data processing systems and thus form the basis for the functionality, the easy handling and the reliability of the automation technology", explains Weidmüller Press Officer Carsten Nagel. "With the intelligent plug-in connector we adopt the motto of the fair and bring intelligence into production".

The demonstrator presents the practical advantages of contactless transmission of measurement and production data. This includes, among other things, the measurement of conductivity via a plug-in connector, such that further components can be eliminated. The Smart Connector ensures that the electronics, sensors and actuators, as well as the communication interfaces, can be combined in the smallest of spaces. Moreover, integrated monitoring provides an overview of the current functionality level. Faults and failures can therefore be significantly reduced. All this optimises the process on many levels, saves costs and accelerates production. "Integrating sensor and diagnostic functions opens up completely new application fields in industry and makes additional sensors partly superfluous", explains Marc Neu, Product Developer at the Weidmüller Smart Connectivity Competence Center. "With an intelligent plug-in connector, it is possible to detect undesirable behaviour or damage early on and to perform predictive maintenance. This means there is reduced machine downtime and increased efficiency. The plug-in connector also allows seamless transition from the real to the virtual world – without any detours".

The main focus of this year's Hannover Messe is again on products and solutions for Industry 4.0 and therefore for digitalisation. Strategically, Weidmüller is positioned as both a provider and a user in these areas. The hot preparation phase for the coming Hannover Messe starts today with the Preview. "Industrial Intelligence" is the general theme of the fair and is set to advance from a concept to industrial reality over the years to come. "Artificial intelligence and machine learning will gradually find its way into production. In Hanover we will also present other innovations from the field of Machine Learning", explains Nagel.

At the leading trade fair for automation, Weidmüller will be focusing on intelligent digital solutions based on IoT-capable components, software and services.

Detmold, 19. November 2018 Europe's leading trade fair for electrical automation, SPS IPC Drives, takes place from 27 to 29 November 2018 in Nuremberg. The Weidmüller Group will be presenting new solutions for digitalisation and automation at Stand 351 in Hall 9. In addition to the dialogue with customers, the focus is on digital solutions based on IoT-capable components, software and services. "Using our new 'IoT Demonstrator powered by u-mation', we can demonstrate our automation portfolio including u-control and the u-create studio software tool. We also provide the infrastructure to operate the system, including routers, switches and the innovative ProTop power supply," says Chief Marketing and Sales Officer José Carlos Álvarez Tobar. For the first time, the company will have two stands at the trade fair as solutions for machine control and system visualisation will also be presented in Hall 7 at the Weidmüller GTI Software GmbH stand.

Automation technology plays central role at Weidmüller

The factory will be able to control itself through intelligent networking and will have the flexibility to adapt to new requirements. The automation solution u-mation from the Detmold-based electrical engineering company combines modular automation hardware as well as engineering and visualisation tools with digitalisation solutions, thus enabling all process levels to be connected – from the sensor to the cloud. From control applications to data-based, predictive machine maintenance through industrial analytics, it thus provides the basis for more efficient production concepts. "With the flexible u-control, the modular u-remote I/O system and the multi-touch panel that is intuitive to operate, customers have access to a comprehensive hardware portfolio that offers high levels of flexibility for configuring individual solutions," says Álvarez Tobar. The company will also present a preview of new functions and further developments of its Industrial Analytics solution for the first time. Artificial intelligence and machine learning methods will be featured.

Modular system concepts thanks to decentralised solutions with FieldPower

Other highlights include modularisation and decentralisation in production. In the future, the implementation of modular system concepts will increasingly require decentralised, adaptable solutions that cover a wide range of functions. Existing systems are also due to be expanded on a decentralised basis. At the trade fair, Weidmüller will demonstrate its FieldPower system that offers a solution for implementing decentralised system and automation concepts in a way that is future-proof and economical. "Whether it's a matter of power distribution for robotics, decentralised power electronics or decentralised automation technology – with the FieldPower system, Weidmüller offers a solution for decentralisation and modularisation," says Álvarez Tobar.

Increasing focus on digitalisation infrastructure

The global increase in the number of smart end devices means that networking requirements are becoming increasingly complex. This also poses new challenges for the infrastructure. Conventional Ethernet bus systems will not be able to meet the demands placed on them by automation technology. New solution concepts will be needed in the future. At the trade fair, Weidmüller will use a demonstrator to show initial technological approaches for end-to-end single pair Ethernet cabling ranging from building systems and technology to sensors in factory automation. "The 'single-pair Ethernet' technology, which is being developed jointly with several partners, makes it possible to transmit Ethernet with two wires instead of eight. This reduction allows significant savings in size, weight and price compared to current solutions," says Álvarez Tobar. For the development of smart connector and infrastructure solutions and industrial connectivity, the Detmold-based company has also recently established a Smart Connectivity Competence Center, which will increasingly focus on these topics.

Close cooperation with the research facilities of CENTRUM INDUSTRIAL IT (CIIT) for the development of smart plug-in connector solutions, infrastructure solutions and industrial electrical connectivity

Lemgo/Detmold, 15 October 2018. The Detmold-based electrical engineering company Weidmüller is expanding its presence within the CENTRUM INDUSTRIAL IT (CIIT) independent research and development centre at the Innovation Campus Lemgo. Weidmüller is setting up a Smart Connectivity Competence Center at the CIIT in order to develop innovations in the field of electrical connectivity and to increase its focus on issues relating to industrial infrastructure. Ten employees from the Device and Field Connectivity division will work even more closely within the CIIT partner network in the future. This is in line with Weidmüller's strategy and follows the company's announcement in December 2017 regarding its plans to increase its activities in Lemgo and promote the development of the Innovation Campus Lemgo. "The aim of the Competence Center is to drive forward research and development relating to smart industrial electrical connectivity, the change of industrial infrastructure and the digital description of products", explains Jörg Scheer, Head of the Device and Field Connectivity division at Weidmüller.

This sees Weidmüller expand, in particular, upon its over ten years of cooperation with the CIIT Science-to-Business centre. The Competence Center will also be able to benefit from optimal support thanks to the proximity to the SmartFactoryOWL, the resident institute Fraunhofer Application Center IOSB-INA and the Institute of Industrial Information Technology (inIT) at the OWL University of Applied Sciences, as well as its participation in the "it's OWL" network. Future development will focus on the issue of industrial infrastructure for power, signals and data, as the process of digitalisation is leading to continual changes in business models, products and working processes as well as in the collaboration between employees and with customers. This leads to the creation of new solutions, products, services and business models, which allow for networking along the value chain. "The trend towards digitalisation in industry requires new solutions, even for components that have previously been purely electromechanical in nature. Plug-in connectors are becoming smart and behave intelligently and will take on innovative additional functions in the future, and they have to operate in infrastructure networks that use DC voltage instead of AC voltage for power distribution", says Scheer. "With the Smart Connectivity Competence Center, we are responding to this development and are intensifying the development of smart plug-in connector solutions and infrastructure solutions".

Weidmüller has already been represented at CIIT in Lemgo for many years in the area of technology development, and the employees from the division mentioned above will serve to further boost the company's presence at the centre. In the future, these employees will work together in close collaboration with the on-site research institutes with the aim of developing the technologies to create market-ready solutions in collaboration with customers.
